Kathleen O'Grady is a Canadian author and academic. O’Grady is the author of several journal and book articles and the co-editor of several books that document the influence of feminist theory in contemporary religious studies. Professor Pamela Sue Anderson of Oxford University has written that O’Grady is “a stellar scholar on French thinking, who writes brilliantly, with subtle, sophisticated and insightful prose about Kristeva, religion and feminism.”〔Prof. Pamela Sue Anderson (Oxford University) in ''The European Journal of Women’s Studies'' (13)1: p. 63.〕
O'Grady's co-edited collection of major French feminist writings on religion, ''French Feminists on Religion: A Reader'' (Routledge), was the first representative selection of important writings by French-language feminist thinkers writing on the topic of religion, including the most influential and provocative texts on the subject from Luce Irigaray, Julia Kristeva, Hélène Cixous,〔http://books.google.com/books?id=KUtIqHiMlPUC&pg=PA81&dq=Kathleen+O%27Grady&lr=#v=onepage&q=Kathleen%20O'Grady&f=false〕 Monique Wittig and Catherine Clément.〔Lisa Isherwood, ''Feminist Theology'', 15: 2006, p. 129)〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Kathleen O'Grady - French Feminists on Religion (Reviews) )
Her co-edited companion volume, ''Religion in French Feminist Thought: Critical Perspectives'' (Routledge),〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Book Review: Rethinking Religion/Rewriting Divinity -- Anderson 13 (1): 63 -- European Journal of Women's Studies )〕 brings together some of the leading modern theological and religious responses to this body of work, and illustrates the ways in which French-language feminist thought has become a valuable tool in feminist efforts to rethink religion.
Her co-edited volume, ''Bodies, Lives, Voices: Gender in Theology'' (Sheffield), along with several journal and book articles on the topic of women and religion,〔http://books.google.com/books?id=pj2nmStomAEC&pg=PA15&dq=Kathleen+O%27Grady&lr=#v=onepage&q=Kathleen%20O'Grady&f=false〕〔“Forgiveness and the Logic of the Gift: Julia Kristeva” in Morny Joy (ed.), ''Women and the Gift'', London: Routledge (2010); “The Semantics of ‘Taboo’: Menstrual Prohibitions in the Hebrew Bible,” pp. 1-28 in Kristin De Troyer, Judith A. Herbert, Judith Ann Johnson and Anne-Marie Korte (eds.), Wholly ''Woman, Holy Blood: A Feminist Critique of Purity and Impurity''. Harrisburg, PA: Trinity Press International (Continuum International Publishing Group), 2003.〕〔http://books.google.com/books?id=s-fGeJYEOcIC&pg=PA153&dq=Kathleen+O%27Grady&lr=#v=onepage&q=Kathleen%20O'Grady&f=false〕 profile the important ways in which feminist thinkers are enriching and transforming traditional representations of women's religious lives.〔Linda Woodhead, ''Theology'' (July–August) 1999〕
O’Grady is also an important figure in the women’s health community, having been editor of the Canadian bilingual (French-English) women’s health magazine, ''Network'' 〔http://www.cwhn.ca/network-reseau/index.html〕 (2002–2008), and having published numerous academic and mainstream press articles on topics related to women’s sexual health, including writings on menstruation and menopause from a cross-cultural perspective, critical articles on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and menstrual suppression drugs.〔http://books.google.com/books?id=GEMw_X3sJvoC&pg=PA137&dq=Kathleen+O%27Grady&lr=#v=onepage&q=Kathleen%20O'Grady&f=false〕〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=O'Grady )
She also co-authored ''Sweet Secrets: Stories of Menstruation,''〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Sweet Secrets: Stories of Menstruation by Kathleen O'Grady and Paula Wansbrough )〕 a non-fiction book for adolescent girls that documents, through interviews and non-fiction short-stories, the many and varied lived experiences of first menstruation (menarche).〔Kaley Kennedy, ''Shameless magazine'', Summer 2〕〔Karen Houppert, ''The Curse: Confronting the Last Unmentionable Taboo: Menstruation'' (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1999)〕〔Kimberly Arial, ''BUST magazine'', 1998〕〔Sheree Haughian, ''Canadian Book Review Annual'', 1998〕
Additionally, O’Grady has published a fictional children’s book, ''First Words: Patti Kay’s Dreamworks.''〔http://books.google.com/books?id=AGDSATPJpzkC&dq=patti+kay's&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=YXvolcy2fX&sig=hlQeH8vwu6ebj29lJpuzdq55irc&hl=en&ei=VFibSozMOILOsQPwtqGTDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3#v=onepage&q=&f=false〕 O’Grady’s other contributions on cultural issues have appeared widely in the mainstream press.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Kathleen O'Grady - Newspaper and Magazine )
